YOUR PROBLEM - SOLUTION RESEARCH PAPER IS DUE APRIL 1ST…THAT'S NO JOKE!!!!

Research Paper Specifics for English Honors 2 Problem Solution Paper DUE DATE: APRIL 1ST 2014 1. Please reference Purdue’s On-Line Writing Center - The Owl for any questions 2. You need to use MLA guidelines for formatting all resources and for formatting your paper. Make sure you follow rules for the margins, spacing, etc. 3. You do not need a title page 4. Remember, we chunked the paper into basic organizational sections. The sections will have a varied number of paragraphs depending upon your content. If you did not copy the sections down from the board on Friday, please copy a peer’s paper a. Intro - includes case scenario (showing section with a narrative and/or dialogue), transition, thesis that explains why the problem is a problem (telling section) b. body - includes breaking your problem down into no more than three basic parts while you cover each part specifically c. body - the next part of the body follows the parts of the problem and offers solutions; however, we are sorting the solutions into two categories - those that are old and those that are new d. body - nod to the opponent - research until you discover the core reason your opponent would be against recognizing your problem as a problem and refute his/her argument e. conclusion - restate your problem and solution in a concise manner and end with a motivational call to action 4. Your paper needs to be at least five pages long. This does not include your works cited page. Anything short of five pages will be given a zero. Please do not make this mistake. 5. You are turning in your annotated bibliography early, and you do not need to make another one for any additional sources you may want to use by the time you complete your final paper. You will need to make sure you have a works cited page, however. Your works cited page includes a list of works you actually use in your paper. Please follow the works cited guidelines in our paper back reference book, or you may use the instructions on-line from the Owl at Purdue. 6. You must have a minimum of TEN citations in your paper. These ten citations may include any paraphrases, direct quotes, or summaries of information. 7. You will be creating a survey and writing an interview for your paper. You need to include elements of both of these in your final paper. 8. Your paper needs to make use of a standard font like palatino or times new roman. You must double space and use a 12 point font. 9. We will be using parenthetical citations for any information we use from our researched sources. Please document them accurately. 10. If you have any questions, or if there is something I have not covered, please feel free to ask, but please avoid last minute questions. 11. Give your paper an interesting, not kooky but not generic, title. 12. Remember, what you have to say needs to be interesting, timely, relevant, engaging, accurate, informative, and clear. As a writer, you have a voice, so put it to good use!! If you are picking a common or overdone subject, you need to find a new way into it or avoid it all together. 13. Write with style. Watch your grammar and mechanics and punctuation please:) I AM SURE I HAVE LEFT SOMETHING OFF. PLEASE READ OVER THIS AND LET ME KNOW WHAT QUESTIONS YOU HAVE. I WILL AMEND OUR LIST IF NEED BE. THANK YOU MRS. ELMEER
